How escrow works on Graft — and why it protects both sides

Escrow isn't just for the client. When a client funds a milestone, the grafter knows the money is committed. Here's how the full payment flow works.

When you hire someone online without protection, you're taking a risk. Escrow eliminates both risks.

What escrow means

Escrow is a secure holding arrangement where a trusted third party holds funds until both sides fulfil their obligations.

The flow

  1. Client funds escrow. After a bid is accepted, the client pays the agreed amount. The money moves into a secure escrow account, not to the grafter.
  2. Work begins. The grafter sees that funds are secured and begins work.
  3. Client confirms completion. Once done to the client's satisfaction, they tap "Confirm complete." Funds are released immediately to the grafter.
  4. Auto-release after 24 hours. If the client takes no action after the grafter marks work complete, funds are automatically released after 24 hours.

What happens in a dispute

If the client is unhappy with the work, they can raise a dispute before confirming completion. Graft's team reviews the case and makes a fair determination. Most disputes are resolved within 48 hours.

Protection fee

Graft charges an 8% protection fee on each transaction. The fee is deducted from the grafter's payout — clients pay the full agreed amount, grafters receive 92%.
